England have announced their 26 man performance squad for the upcoming tests and it has one or two interesting names in there.

Adil Rashid has once again entered the frame and though I still think it may be a little too early for him, could well be in with a shout of seeing some international action this summer.  The other uncapped players are Michael Carberry and the Kent spinner James Tredwell.

Elsewhere, the likes of Rob Key and Matt Prior return to the selectors thoughts, whilst the rest of the squad is pretty much as you would expect.

National selector Geoff Miller, said:

Quote
"The England Performance Squad is designed to allow Peter Moores to closely monitor the development of international players and better prepare them for the demands of the international game.

"The selectors can name up to 30 players in the EPS, but we have decided to keep four places vacant to give ourselves greater flexibility and we will reserve the right to add further players to the squad if their performances in domestic cricket merit it."

The full squad is:

Ambrose (Warwicks), Anderson (Lancs), Bell (Warwicks), Bopara (Essex), Broad (Notts), Carberry (Hants), Collingwood (Durham), Cook (Essex), Flintoff (Lancs), Harmison (Durham), Hoggard (Yorks), Key (Kent), Mascarenhas (Hants), Mustard (Durham), Panesar (Northants), Pietersen (Hants), Prior (Sussex), Rashid (Yorks), Shah (Middx), Strauss (Middx), Sidebottom (Notts), Swann (Notts), Tredwell (Kent), Tremlett (Hants), Vaughan (Yorks), Wright (Sussex).

Liam Plunkett has gone completely out of the selectors thoughts it seems.

I doubt it. I think they just feel that he needs to have years in County cricket to hone his game.

It's the same as the likes of Mahmood, reasonable players but they need to hone their skills, like Sidebottom did.

Sajid Mahmood I don't rate at all, but I feel Plunkett is good enough to be included in a 26 man squad, although looking there is only five specialist fast bowlers.

I still think that Plunkett, like Anderson is too inconsistent, especially for a test match.  He has a lot to offer, including a bit of batting talent but needs to improve his game.  He would benefit from honing an effective stock ball and some decent variations.

If Mahmood could work on his accuracy he could be incredibly dangerous, he's got natural pace, real pace. He'd be of real quality if he could find that accuracy.
